Where should I do my engagement session?

This gorgeous couple was actually the winner of a contest that I collaborated with a few different vendors on.
The Springs Events Edmond Oklahoma, my beloved makeup artist Peyton Diffendaffer out of Iron Rose Salon
and of course, myself!

My brides ask me all the time if they should shoot their engagements or bridals at their wedding venue location.  My answer always depends on the bride.  I always ask if they have a location or activity that is special to them as a couple.  You can see more on how to choose a location on my location blog post

If you don't have any specific spot in mind, or you just love your venue that much, then I say go for it.
The bonus on using your venue is that you know it will be in good condition for photos, no flooding, no issue with access.
Another plus side is that most wedding venues allow their brides to use them for free.

Possible downsides to consider is that you'll have more photos from the same location.  Also, if it's a wedding venue, you're not going to be able to shoot your session during the weekend as they're likely going to be hosting events.  So if you and your fiancé aren't easily able to make that schedule work, that could be a deal breaker.

Another consideration is if you have two different photographers you want to use.  I've had this situation happen in a few different scenarios. If you have a family member that hired your photographer for you, but you really love a different one, or you met your dream photographer AFTER you already booked one, or if you couldn't say no to a friend that offered to shoot your wedding but you really wanted images from that photographer.  Do a session with them at your venue!
You could do engagement, bridal or ask the photographer if they offer post wedding sessions.  Get dressed up and do it again, but just the two of you!

One little side point, if you're trying to decide on professional hair and makeup or not, the answer is yes!  Do it!  You feel so pretty, which gives so much confidence in your photos and it makes a difference.  Plus, I mean you just look so polished. You're only doing this once, do it!
